FREE Professional indemnity cover

One of the many benefits that you will enjoy as a GP specialty trainee in Peninsula Postgraduate Medical Education (PPME) is that your professional indemnity will be arranged and paid for on your behalf, for your full three year training period; this will ensure adequate and appropriate indemnity and access to medico-legal assistance is in place for your entire programme whether in hospital, community setting or general practice. This new scheme runs in tandem with our host employer arrangement. This means that your contractual and indemnity arrangements are as simple and consistent as possible over the whole three years.

PPME have arranged your professional indemnity with MDDUS. This UK wide defence organisation has been in existence for over 100 years and throughout that time has enjoyed an enviable reputation for providing a quality and personalised service www.mddus.com.The PPME/MDDUS scheme includes benefits such as enhanced education and free indemnity cover for you as a medical practitioner for the duration of your membership.

Enrollment on the scheme couldn’t be easier, the School of Primary Care will do it all for you in time for August.* You will also be sent a personalised membership certificate for your records. This means that any cover that you already have in place should cease by August.

If you would like to opt out of this arrangement and purchase professional indemnity yourself with another provider you must contact the Helpdesk at PPME in order to notify the Postgraduate Dean of your decision. If you opt to maintain your own indemnity insurance it will be your responsibility to ensure the level of indemnity you hold is appropriate for the differing work environments throughout your programme. This is undertaken automatically for members of the PPME/MDDUS scheme.

Failure to notify the Postgraduate Dean that you wish to opt out of the PPME/MDDUS scheme will mean that you are automatically enrolled into membership of MDDUS.

*IMPORTANT:  Anyone who graduated before 2012 will need to complete an individual MDDUS membership application form.  If this applies to you please email Karen Walsh from MDDUS to request an application form.
