A | Seminar: Back to the Future – Hippocrates and his oath Facilitated by Dr John Godwin The Hippocratic Oath is universally regarded as the benchmark of medical practice from the ancient world right up to today. We will look in detail at the oath itself and also at the procedures and practices which Hippocrates used in treating patients and how relevant they might be today. |
B | Remediation for GP Registrars and under performing doctors: What are we doing well, what could we do better? Facilitated by Dr Malcolm Bird The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for discussion to review trainers experiences with regards supporting and remediating underperforming trainees (and doctors) and look at techniques and strategies that we could but in place to further develop remediation work across the Peninsula. |
C | GP Recruitment: looking at ways to inspire juniors into General Practice. Facilitated by Dr Helen Rogers A summary of the current situation in GP Recruitment; looking at efforts to increase interest and applicant numbers made across the Peninsula deanery and beyond, gathering new ideas to take forward. |
D | Teaching Communication Skills Facilitated by Dr Helen Rochester and Dr Claire Fox Practical workshop to help new and newish trainers develop their trainee’s consultation skills using Cambridge-Calgary methodology. We’ll demonstrate and provide you with examples of skills used on the VTS to help trainees develop their communications skills to prepare for the CSA and real life consultations (surprisingly, the skills are the same!) You’ll get take home resources and have time to develop your skills too. |
E | Using Natural Resources in Teaching Facilitated by Dr Gareth Broad This will involve some outdoor activity and an open mind. An open workshop which will encourage lateral thinking about how we teach and train, and may involve wet weather clothing! |
F | Equity, efficiency and effectiveness in the NHS Facilitated by Dr Lucinda Harris and Karen Barry Don’t let the three letter acronyms put you off this workshop! CCG, STP, DRSS, IFR…?? Commissioning policies, Panel and referrals LES?? How can we explain these entities to our trainees and help them (and our patients) navigate and understand the pressures facing the cash strapped NHS. Why do referral pathways exist, how can we use them to facilitate rather than hamper our consultations and our training? What are the ethical implications of all this (and how do these make for interesting and stimulating tutorials)? We will endeavour to cover this vast topic in an interactive way with plenty of fodder to take back for tutorials and to practice colleagues! |
G | HYPNOSIS and 5 things you can learn from it to influence your training and patients Facilitated by Dr Toh Wong A demonstration of hypnosis and NLP (Neurolinguistic programming) and a breakdown of the techniques used that you can use to influence your trainees – Bring an open mind and you can keep your clothes on. |
