The combined training pathways provide the opportunity for you to combine previous relevant experience with your GP training programme.
There are two combined training pathways:
- Accreditation of Transferable Capabilities (ATC) for applicants who are transferring to general practice training from another GMC approved specialty training programme
- Certificate of Completion of Training: Combined Programme (CCT CP) for applicants who have relevant experience from outside a GMC approved specialty training programme. This might include substantive clinical roles or overseas training and experience.
To apply for Accreditation of Transferable Capabilities (ATC) you must:
- Have completed a minimum of 12 months (full time equivalent) in any other relevant GMC approved specialty training programme
- Have been in a GMC approved specialty programme training post within the five years preceding your planned start date for GP specialty training
- Can provide ARCP outcome forms covering at least 12 months (full time equivalent) of your previous training programme.
To apply for CCT CP you must:
- Have at least 12 months (full time equivalent) of relevant experience above Foundation level (or equivalent) within the five years preceding your planned start date for GP specialty training
- Can provide evidence to support this experience.
To apply you must have indicated as part of your application form (on Oriel) that you would like to be considered for the ATC or CCT (CP) pathway.If you did not indicate a combined training pathway on your application to GP training, it will not be possible to apply once you have commenced the training programme.
Once you have been allocated a rotation your details will be passed on to the School of Primary Carewho will activate the combined training portal on your ePortfolio (Fourteen Fish).
You will be contacted shortly after you start your programme with an invitation to submit and upload your CV to the application portal on the ePortfolio. Once this has been approved, you will be able to formally apply for combined training. Your formal application should be submitted within the first 2 months of starting your programme.
The decision to approve your application will be made at your first ARCP panel at 6 months, and will be based on the recommendation from the RCGP as well as your progress in training to date.
If your application is successful, the GP school will remove a 6 month or 4 month post from your programme (depending on your rotation). The posts omitted will be one of the hospital attachments AFTER your first ARCP. Although personal preference will be taken into account regarding which post to remove, removing the post of your choice cannot be guaranteed.
Please bear this in mind when considering your rotation choices as rotations cannot be changed at a later date without statutory reasons.
