Torbay General Practice Vocational Training Scheme

Welcome to the Torbay GP Specialty Training Scheme website where we offer a small, friendly scheme that has been established in South Devon for over 20 years.

Torbay VTS is well supported by a wide variety of training practices, covering everything from the rural practices through to coastal and busy town practices. The GP trainers are a very cohesive, active group, who meet regularly and have annual residential events.

The scheme offers broad training based mainly in the friendly and sociable Torbay Hospital. This well-thought-of hospital has excellent facilities available and shows the commitment held for top quality training. A brand new educational centre with a purpose built educational suite was opened in May 2009. More information about South Devon Healthcare Foundation Trust can be found on their website - www.sdhct.nhs.uk.

The three year scheme comprises 18 months of approved hospital specialist training posts at Torbay Hospital as well as 18 months in general practice. As elsewhere, specialist trainees and registrars are expected to attend the planned educational programme held in term time in the new Horizon Centre. Torbay Hospital as well as all the normal postgraduate activities held within the area. The Torbay GP Specialty Training Scheme is recognised by the Royal College of General Practitioners for the MRCGP examination, the DCH and DRCOG.
