Welcome to the South West Peninsula GP Vocational Training section.
This section is for people who have decided they would like to do vocational training for General Practice and are looking for information on how to do this in one of the most beautiful and exciting areas of the country.
GP specialty training lasts for three years. At least one is in General Practice and up two years in hospital or community posts relevant to a GP's needs.
It is useful to have some experience of General Practice at the beginning of GP training, so that you have an idea which learning opportunities from your hospital experience are likely to help you the most. Doctors usually end the course of training with a period of twelve months in General Practice.
There are five training schemes within the South West Peninsula - Cornwall, Exeter, North Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.
Each of the schemes offers the very best in training combined with a wonderful lifestyle, yet each offers a unique experience.
